Arch Gallery is pleased to present its first group exhibition IT’S A JOKE, that brings together works of 10 artists, CHEN Xiaoguo, HAO Jingfang & WANG Lingjie, LIANG Hao, XUE Ruozhe, XIE Yi, ZHENG Jiang, ZHU Xiangmin, ZHANG Yibei and ZHOU Yilun.
The artists participating in this exhibition each has their unique artistic language. Just as Duchamp mentioned that ‘the artist’s thoughts, actions and sensibility are infinite movements in different fields through time and variety ways’. As individuals, the spiritual characteristics of these artists are connected to series of documents of artistic expression and creative practices, which related to the artist’s state of mind are directly related to social life and the external world.
The transformation of the concepts produce “determined creativity” which is opposed to “representational norm” – the object of art is the object of thought, the confirmation and consolidation of non-form and boundaries, “the work has its own clear proof” (The Aesthetic Unconscious). , Jacques Rancière, cp.03). When watching the works in IT’S A JOKE, it’s like being submerged in a resonance-like energy field.
The exhibition space becomes the field of thoughts, what separates the viewer and the artist is not art theory – the conflicts and contradictions conveyed by the artist’s every action and brushstroke – there isn any “non-thinking” details are unimportant and irrelevant. Every expression carries a meaning of the whole work.
Where the eye falls, all the “visible” things we see is the same present moment as the artist, rather than the memory and recollection of past patterns.
The unique structure and secret operation in the human mind, the tension between the pictures and the words between the actions bring the feeling of being in it, far beyond the sense of subordination to the usual form.
